The Port of Seattle's published 2026 schedule lists two final cruise calls, both on Sunday, October 11. Norwegian Encore is at Pier 66, the Bell Street Cruise Terminal, and Holland America's Noordam is at Pier 91, the Smith Cove Cruise Terminal. After that, the cruise schedule stops shaping the central waterfront, and the new park's calendar takes over. From mid-October into the winter, that calendar fills with walking tours, dance nights, evening events at the aquarium and, if last season repeats, a wood-burning firepit. These are things a Seattle resident can show up for without competing with a ship's worth of day visitors.
This is the first off-season with nearly the whole rebuilt waterfront open, which makes the change easy to see.
The Weekend the Calendar Changes Hands
The cruise season was large. In an April 16, 2026 release, the Port projected 330 vessel calls and 2.1 million revenue passengers for 2026. Those were forecasts made at the start of the season, not a final count, and the Port notes that its schedule can change. Even so, the forecast shows the scale of a typical summer weekend, when Pier 66 sits a short walk from Pier 62 and Overlook Walk.
The handoff comes over three days. The Friends of Waterfront Park events calendar puts a local event on each one.
| Date | Where | What's happening |
|---|---|---|
| Saturday, Oct. 10, 9 a.m. | Pier 62 | Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk, a family- and dog-friendly 5K from the American Cancer Society |
| Sunday, Oct. 11, 10 a.m. | Railroad Way | Game Day Activations before Lumen Field home games, 21+ |
| Sunday, Oct. 11 | Piers 66 and 91 | Final scheduled cruise calls of 2026 |
| Monday, Oct. 12, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. | Pier 58 | Indigenous Peoples' Day, free, presented by Hummingbird Indigenous Family Service |
The Railroad Way event pairs two neighborhood spots with each end of the corridor: The Hall at Occidental with Railroad Way South, and Historic Triangle Pub with Railroad Way North. Sunday, October 11 is the last date on that page, so the pregame gathering wraps up the same day the last ships sail.
What Fills the Calendar Once the Ships Are Gone
The programming after October 12 has a different feel from summer. It leans toward history, small groups and evenings, and two of the events are led by local writers who have spent years studying this shoreline.
On Thursday, October 22, from 5:30 to 7 p.m., historian Jennifer Ott leads a one-mile walk called Uncovering the History of Seattle's Central Waterfront. It starts at 80 S. Main St. and covers the piers, people, ships and railroads that shaped the shore. Admission is free, but tickets are limited. On Tuesday, November 3, from 10 a.m. to noon, naturalist David B. Williams leads the Secrets of Seattle's Historic Shoreline Walking Tour. It starts at Alaskan Way and Lenora Street and also offers free, limited tickets.
On Halloween, the Port of Seattle and Friends present Spooky Salsa & Boo-Chata at Pier 66. It runs from 6 to 11 p.m., is free, and takes place at the same cruise terminal pier that hosted Norwegian Encore three weeks earlier. On Friday, November 13, Friends hosts Dinner with Friends, a 21+ ticketed fundraiser at the Seattle Marriott Waterfront, 2100 Alaskan Way.
The Seattle Aquarium runs its own evening schedule on the same stretch. After Hours is a monthly 21+ program, and members get discounted tickets. The fall dates are:
- Thursday, Oct. 29, 7 to 10 p.m.: After Hours Premier: Halloween, with access to all three Aquarium buildings.
- Saturday, Oct. 31: A separate daytime Halloween event.
- Thursday, Nov. 12, 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.: After Hours: Gill and Chill, held in the Ocean Pavilion only.
- Thursday, Dec. 31, 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.: After Hours: New Year's Fishes, also in the Ocean Pavilion only.
Daytime visits can cost much less with a library card. Seattle Public Library and King County Library cardholders can reserve free admission vouchers, and qualifying EBT, WIC and ProviderOne households pay $5. Regular hours are 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., with last entry at 5 p.m. On Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve the Aquarium closes at 4 p.m., and on Christmas Day it opens at 11:30 a.m. The Ocean Pavilion also closes early on November 5, November 12 and December 31.
The Places That Run All Year
Events are one reason to go. The other is that several parts of the waterfront now operate on the same schedule whether a ship is in port or not.
Pier 58 reopened on July 25, 2025. It has a marine-themed playground with a jellyfish climbing tower and slide, an elevated lawn, a shaded tree grove, a flexible plaza, and a restroom. The bronze FitzGerald fountain was restored and reinstalled on the pier. This fall is the pier's second off-season, but the first one with the rest of the corridor finished around it.
Overlook Walk is open daily. It connects Pike Place Market directly to the waterfront with ramps and an elevator, and it includes a playground and the Salish Steps amphitheater. Its café opened on Saturday, February 7, 2026 as Boon Boona Coffee. Friends says it is the company's fifth location and brings East African coffee traditions to the walk. The café's listed hours are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily, so it stays open after dark even in December.
At ground level, the east-side Alaskan Way multi-use greenway now runs from Virginia Street to Clay Street. The Blanchard-to-Wall segment opened on April 17, 2026, and the full stretch opened on April 21. Most of the summer's foot traffic has disappeared by now, which makes this the first fall the greenway can be used as a regular walking or biking route without summer crowds.
Toward the south end, Molly Moon's has run a waterfront scoop shop since May 2025. It is in the historic Washington Street Boat Landing Pergola at 199 Alaskan Way. Pier 62 is open daily with a public floating dock, seating, restrooms and games.
The jellyfish tower's height is listed as 25 feet in the City's opening release and 18 feet on the Friends park page. The slide is listed at 18 feet. Both describe the same marine-themed playground.
The Big Dark Had a Firepit Last Year
The strongest sign that the park plans for off-season visitors is a ten-foot wood-burning firepit at Pier 62, designed by Berger Partnership. Friends describes its Firepit Socials as informal weekend gatherings during the Pacific Northwest's "big dark" months, held weather permitting.
Last season followed a clear pattern. The socials ran on Saturdays from November 1 through December 27, 2025, then moved to Sundays and a few Saturdays from January 3 through March 29. That made about five months of free weekend events, starting just weeks after the last cruise ship left.
Friends hasn't posted a 2026–27 schedule yet. As of early October, the program page still reads "Thanks for a great 2026 firepit social season!" with no new dates. The Waterfront Park Holiday Market page found for this post refers to a 2025 event that was marked cancelled. If the firepit returns on last year's schedule, it would start in early November, so the events calendar is worth checking toward the end of October.
Openings Arriving During the Quiet Months
Several businesses are scheduled to open along the corridor this winter, while the waterfront is at its quietest.
- Urban Family Brewing, 1022 Alaskan Way. The Ballard brewery is opening a second location across from Ivar's Fish Bar. It will be dog-friendly, with indoor and outdoor seating, beer, cocktails, local wine, coffee and an in-house food menu. Visit Seattle gives a fall 2026 target, and no exact opening date has been announced.
- Ben & Jerry's, Pier 54, 1001 Alaskan Way. A permanent shop is planned to open in December 2026 or January 2027. A limited-menu pop-up ran there through mid-September.
- Colman Dock food concessions. The Washington State Ferries terminal at the south end of the waterfront has confirmed Kathmandu MomoCha, Puget Sound Traders, Knots Landing pretzels, P.S. Perks Espresso and Coffee, and a smoothie bar. Space remains for more tenants.
A few blocks inland, Death & Co opened its fifth U.S. location in September 2026 on the ground floor of RailSpur at 419 Occidental Ave., alongside three new Sea Creatures restaurants from James Beard Award-winning chef Renee Erickson. Railroad Way connects that block to the water, and its pregame gatherings end on October 11.
From mid-October, the central waterfront is reachable by ferry, greenway and Overlook Walk. A free Pier 58 event, two historian-led tours, a Halloween dance night at the cruise pier and three after-hours nights at the Aquarium are already on the calendar.
If you're weighing how a downtown Seattle home fits with the waterfront's seasons, or comparing that life with the Honolulu side of the corridor, Melvin Leon Guerrero would be glad to talk it through. Let's Connect.
